STEP UP for STEM
Help support our budding scientists, technologists, engineers, and mathematicians! St. Perpetua School is dedicated to enhancing its STEM focus at every grade level. Seven of the ten fastest growing occupations are in STEM fields, making STEM education critical to future success. Research shows that early and continual exposure to STEM positively impacts the entire spectrum of learning. We want our students to explore their natural curiosity through hands-on tech and no-tech curriculum tools and a learning environment that cultivates a lifelong STEM foundation.
Fund-a-Need contributions will go toward:
FOSS kits – 3 per grade, K-8. Each kit costs $1500 on average. Total estimated cost : $36,000
- Designed by developers at the Lawrence Hall of Science for “learning by doing”
- Specifically designed for each grade level on the topics of physical science, earth science and life science.
- Engage all students with meaningful active learning experiences
- Prepare all students to succeed with the NGSS performance expectations
- Integrate robust reading and literacy strategies to support the Common Core ELA for all students
- Utilize technology to deliver learning experiences and provide teachers with time-saving classroom management resources
MakerBot software, lessons and 3-D Printing, K-8. Estimated cost : $15,000 for 2 bundles
- Leading 3D printing education company with free software and lesson plans
- Teacher webinars to understand materials and lesson plans, with follow up support
- Students will master the basics of 3-D design, with hands-on learning
- Fully integrated and compatible with Chromebooks
- Each “education bundle” includes 2 printers and all materials for a year’s worth of lessons
Tech software for Jr. High Curriculum. Estimated cost: $3000
- Enables 112 students to create an account or profile for tech curriculum
- Allows students to work on coding skills
- Enables teacher to track progress and store scores
- Program is 8 to 20 weeks in length
- Tech topics offered are coding, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, or programming.
